The Other Side - Chapter 1/1 - Complete
So you made it to the other side, blondie.
You crawled and climbed and clawed your way out of your dark flaming hole.
You made it to the other side even if broken and bruised and bloodied...
And you felt alive.
When you sensed the air against your skin did you feel free?
When you smelled humans around you, did you long for companionship, not feeling alone?
When you saw filth against the shadow of the sun, was it really better?
When you opened your mouth, something other than a cry or a curse escaping it, did you feel relieved?
Were you relieved to find that you were still able to speak and form sentences, no matter how much time you had spent in a dungeon where beasts ruled, where you were chained like an animal?
When you opened your arms as if you could fly, did you really feel like soaring?
Did you feel elevated? Because you weren't blondie!
Earth is just one step up.
The ladder is still too high for you to reach to heaven...You have yet some climbing to do....
Did you really think that humans are so much better than demons just because they don't live in hell?
Did you honestly think that this was all it would take?
Just this “great escape” and it would be perfection and happiness throughout?
When you opened up your arms, did you actually expect that they would welcome you back?
Is this the world you remember, Ruby?
Was it a place of rainbows and butterflies even back in your day?
Was love and kindness the prevalent feeling to begin with?
Were people always good, benign?
Were they past evil thoughts and malicious actions? Wasn't it suffering, wasn't it despair what got you into hell in the first place?
See there, blondie? I think you have it all mixed up inside that pretty head of yours...
You can't abandon the world, a place swarming with pain and hatred and return to it centuries after and expect it to have become this perfect place, a place like the ones you dreamed about when the suffering in hell subsided.
You can't leave something behind and expect it to be better, not unless you have done something to improve it yourself.
Otherwise, you are a hypocrite.
Are you a hypocrite, Ruby?
Because you only strike me as a coward.
So, you can't return here, showing your pale face again and ask to be forgiven and absolved!
Absolution, forgiveness is earned, it's not granted merely on the count of twenty tears.
It's something you must work for. So are you ready, blondie?
Are you ready to work for it?
Are you ready to make sacrifices, to step over your limits?
Are you willing to maintain the perseverance you need to have?
Are you ready to persist, to not give up no matter how your newly acquired heart screams for you to back down, afraid to meet its death again and of falling into a million pieces?
When you will stare into the mirror, will you be disappointed when you see that your eyes are still black; that no matter where you go or how certain you are that you've left it behind, darkness is within you, following you wherever you may go?
It's something you carry with you always...
Oh, no... you don't get rid of it. It's your legacy now, an inalienable part of your being.
You can't destroy it or bury it deep enough... It will always resurface.
You can only tame it and hope it stays that way, controlled and harmless.
But deep inside you'll know that darkness is always dangerous, always threatening to engulf everything in its wake, leaving nothing but destruction and debris on its trail.
Oh, but you knew that, sweet Ruby.
You did.
Don't you dare tell me you didn't. Don't insult my intelligence and dont dare put yours down either.
Tell me, when you open your eyes to this world again in a random place at a random time, will you really be shocked that they will meet with darkness as thick as in hell, only different?
Will you be shocked when you realize that bad deeds have continued since you left and will continue to occur?
Will you be terrified to find that some of the crimes and atrocities around you hold a special kind of cruelty and brutality that put to shame even the best of your kind?
Now, Ruby tell me, are you really grateful you escaped?
Are you happy you made it to the other side?
When you walk among these humans, these people, do you feel like you are finally home?
Do you honestly feel like you belong?
Are you proud to call them your kind?
At least half of you is human.
That's how you started out.
As one of them and you escaped hell in the silly hope that you would join them again.
So, are you happy with your choice?
Is the world all you expected it to be?
And please tell me, in all honesty, do you think two brothers, the Winchesters - one of them already on the clock and on his way to hell - can make a difference?
Do you think they are strong enough to overcome the evil pestering this world? To overthrow the reign of evil in this dimension?
Can they do that and still maintain the humanity you so admire, the humanity you so long for?
Of all the demons, of all humans, Ruby, you should know.
You should be the one to know that you have to retain some part of the beast you once were, inside of you, if you want to win.
Can you take that risk?
Let the beast out for a little while and imprison it again?
Do you think you are strong enough to contain it?
There's a reason why they say: “It takes one to know one”.
Don't you know that when you kill a beast, a part of it, residing within you, mourns its loss?
Do you really think the Winchester boys are ready?
Do you believe that they can keep up this fight without losing their compassion in the process?
Without sacrificing most of their humanity?
Do you think they won't eventually forget how it feels to be human, crossing one more barrier separating your kinds?
”I don't know, Jamiroth" Ruby replied to the demon.
They had crossed each other's paths again when they both wanted the same things. Chaos and destruction....
But now she felt different.
She knew she had to try, no matter the consequences.
"I don't know" she repeated.
"But I'm willing to find out! And don't you stand in my way!”
